PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team dropped its home opener, 2-1 against the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers. With the loss, Fisher falls to 1-4 on the year, while RIT advances to 4-1.

The Cardinals opened up the scoring in the 21st minute of the half. Jackie Romano would fire a corner kick, collected by Hannah Buschner, who would eventually pass back to Romano coming in to bury the ball in the top right shelf of the net. The goal would mark Romano's second of the season.

Fisher would be outshot 5-2 by the Tigers in the first half, with Romano and Emily Murray recording the shots for the Cardinals. Melissa McGowan would keep Fisher in the game, tallying four total saves on five shots in the half.

The tying goal would come just three and a half minutes into the second half, when RIT would send a cross sailing from the right side, where a player would tap the ball into the right corner, just out of McGowan's reach.

Just four minutes later, the Cardinals would be undone by an RIT direct kick, which was then gathered by another RIT player who would find the back of the net for the go ahead score.

The Cardinals had their best chance to score when Makenzie Winslow would shake the defenders, going one on one with the RIT goalkeeper who would save the shot. Winslow would then grab the rebound and fire it just high of the net.

At the completion of the game, Fisher would be outshot by RIT, 13-7. Romano and Winslow led the charge for Fisher, blasting two shots apiece.

McGowan kept the Cardinals alive in the contest, but would eventually take the loss, registering seven total saves over 90 minutes of play.

The Cardinals return to Growney Stadium at 1 p.m. on Saturday, as they take on Morrisville State College in another non-conference showdown.
