PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team fell 4-0 to the nationally ranked Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks in Empire 8 play. The Cardinals stand at 3-9-1 overall, while falling to 1-2-1 in Empire 8 Conference play. The Ducks are now 8-2-2 in their 2017 season, while advancing to 4-1-0 in the conference.
Stevens hopped on the board early when a Duck opponent, gathered a ball in the six yard box and buried the ball into the lower left corner. The Ducks' second goal came about 12 minutes later when a Stevens player passed the ball to her teammate, who was able to shake the defense and find the back of the net in the top right corner.
The Ducks would make it 3-0 with 11 minutes remaining in the half, when a player was able to beat the Fisher defense and score after going one on one with Fisher goalkeeper, Melissa McGowan.
Fisher would finish the first half with four total shots. Emily Murray, Logan Chase, Nora Broderick and Elise Olivo all tallied a lone shot in the half.
The Fisher defense turned it up in the second half, only allowing one goal in the half. The only goal came just shy of the 67th minute of play. A Stevens' player sent a corner kick sailing into the box, finding her teammate to punch it in, just out of McGowan's reach.
Fisher's lone shot attempt of the half came from Elise Olivo, who fired a shot just wide of the net.
McGowan would take the loss in net, tallying eight saves over, 75 minutes of play. Lila Platt also recorded three stops of her own, in just under 15 minutes of action.
Fisher hits the road, playing at 7 p.m. on Thursday against Wells College in Aurora, New York.
