BOX SCOREThe St. John Fisher College women's soccer team faced its second ranked opponent in a row falling 1-0 against No. 16 ranked Union College Saturday at Growney Stadium.
With the loss Fisher moves to 1-5 overall, while Union remains undefeated at 5-0.Â
Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half. Fisher had a quality scoring chance in the 21
st minute when
Jackie Romano found
Molly Beaton at the top of the six yard box, whose shot went just wide of the net.
The Cardinals had another dangerous scoring opportunity in the 33
rd minute as
Nicolette Nigro took a long shot that rolled to
Carly Finn in front of the net. Finn tapped it by the goalkeeper but a Union defender cleared the shot off the line before it went into the goal.
The Dutchwomen broke the scoreless tie less than 15 minutes into the second half as Whitney Bickford collected a loose ball on the backside and slotted it into the far post.
Fisher kept pushing for the equalizer, however the Dutchwomen were up for the challenge. Union's goalkeeper came up huge in the 69
th minute pushing aside a strong shot from Beaton.
Brooke Seavitt registered six saves in net for Fisher.
Fisher returns to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday when it will travel to Fredonia State.
