Velasco

Box Score

Portia Velasco became the 22nd player in women's basketball history to score 1,000 points in her career as the Cardinals cruised to an 84-51 win over Houghton College on Friday night at Fisher's Bobby Wanzer Court.  Velasco rattled home a 3-pointer at the 15:37 mark of the second half to give her 1,001 points.  She finished the game with 20 points and now sits at 1,003 points for her career.

With the win, Fisher improves to 14-8 overall, while Houghton drops to 6-14.  Games against Houghton, a provisional member of NCAA Division III, do not impact conference standings.

Fisher took control from the start grabbing a 14-0 lead four minutes into the contest capped off by a Camaryn Buckner layup and the Cardinals never looked back.

The Highlanders closed the Cardinals deficit to 10 points, 20-10, with 13 minutes left in the half but the Highlanders would come no closer the rest of the game.  Fisher closed out the half strong and held a 50-26 advantage at the break.

Twelve different players scored for Fisher as the Cardinals shot 58 percent from the floor.

Mary Kate Cusack scored 17 points, adding three assists and three steals while Buckner notched 13 points.

Fisher will be back in action tomorrow at 4 p.m. for a pivotal Empire at matchup at Ithaca College.
