Football Game Notes vs. Salisbury University

The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College football squad (3-0, 2-0) will host Salisbury University (1-2, 0-1) at 12 p.m. on Saturday during Alumni Weekend.  Fisher is looking for its first win over the Gulls as Salisbury has won the previous five contests.

No. 6 Fisher, according to the National Coaches poll, throttled Frostburg State last weekend 48-7 on the road to remain unbeaten in Empire 8 play.  Sophomore running back Chris Smith rushed for three scores, while wide receiver Nathan Nigolian hauled in a touchdown pass in each half for Fisher.   The defense held the Bobcats rushing attack to just 38 yards on the ground its lowest total dating back to last season when Fisher held Hartwick to just 26 rushing yards on October 12.

Salisbury is coming off a conference-opening loss to Buffalo State 32-28 last Saturday.  The Gulls held a 28-17 lead heading into the fourth quarter, however Bengals running back Rich Pete scored two touchdowns in the last quarter to push the home team to the victory.

Saturday's game will feature two of the top rushing attacks in the nation with the Gulls boasting the 15th ranked ground attack at 282.3 yards per game while Fisher ranks 28th, averaging 246 per game.
