Late Penalty Kick Costs Fisher

BOX SCORE

A late penalty shot proved to be the difference, as the St. John Fisher College women's soccer team saw its two-game win streak snapped after losing 2-1 to the visiting University of Rochester Yellow Jackets.

With the loss, Fisher moves to 3-6 on the season, while Rochester improves to 4-3-1 overall.

The Cardinals controlled the ball for much of the second half until the 79th minute when Rochester's Kathryn Rowe found an opening, but was taken to the ground and awarded a penalty shot, which she netted to give the visitors the 2-1 edge.

In the first half, Rochester was first to strike when a long pass down field was corralled by Jessica Smith who buried the shot in the 20th minute to give the visiting Yellow Jackets an early 1-0 lead.

Fisher would leveled the score at one goal apiece when Alexandra Rohloff broke free and beat Rochester goalie, Allison Bernstein to the ball before scoring her fifth goal of the season.

Brooke Seavitt had three saves in the game.

The Cardinals will open up conference play return to action at 7 p.m. on Thursday when they host Houghton College in an Empire 8 matchup.
