Cusack Sets Career Marks as Cardinals Cruise Past Houghton

BOX SCORE

The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team defeated Houghton College 80-70 on the road Tuesday night. Fisher was powered by a career day from freshman Mary Kate Cusack and veteran leadership from Camaryn Buckner. The win improves the Cardinals to 11-11 on the season.

Cusack scored a career-high 25 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the field. The guard also set a career high for 3-pointers made in a contest, draining six shots from beyond the arc, including 4-of-5 attempts in the final half.

Buckner, despite only playing five minutes in the first period due to foul trouble, was able to knock in 23 points and grab 11 boards for her eighth double-double of the season. Sydney Bloomstein was the other double digit scorer for the Cardinals, adding 12 points in the game.

The Cardinals had eight different players score in the first half to take a 35-29 lead into the locker room. Fisher had to fight through early foul concerns, as Buckner, after four quick points, picked up two fouls and spent the remaining 15 minutes of the stanza on the pine. Bloomstein and Claire Walsh joined Buckner later in the half with two infractions of their own.

Cusack poised the Cardinals, however, scoring a game-high 12 points in the opening period. The freshman went 4-for-8 from the field in only her third start of the year. Bloomstein and Avery Light also anchored the Fisher offense, scoring six points apiece.

The Cardinals will now get a week off as they return to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Nazareth College, as the two institutions renew the East Avenue rivalry.
