Women's Basketball Uses Strong Second Half to Defeat D'Youville

The St. John Fisher College women's basketball overcame a poor shooting first half Saturday to cruise to a 72-56 win over host D'Youville College.  After scoring just 21 points in the first half the Cardinals used a well balanced offensive output, including four players scoring in double-digits, to help seal the victory.


With the win Fisher improves to 2-1 overall.

The Cardinals shot just under 29 percent in the first half (8-for-28) and trailed 29-21 at the break.  D'Youville led 33-31 with 16:04 left in the game, but Fisher took control, thanks to a 21-0 run over the next 6:14.

Camaryn Buckner had a strong game for Fisher registering a double-double.  The senior had 17 points, shooting 6-for-11 from the field, while pulling down 15 rebounds.

Mary Kate Cusack finished with 17 points of her own along with a game-high four steals.

Portia Velasco pitched in 11 points and four assists while Sydney Bloomstein added 10 points for the Cardinals.

Fisher will play  its home-opener at 5 p.m Tuesday against Medaille College.
