The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team was unable to capitalize on a chance to secure a postseason berth falling 2-1 to Empire 8 foe, Hartwick College, Wednesday afternoon at Elmore Field.
Fisher fell behind early in the first half as Hartwick connected on its first attempt of the match in the 15th minute. Moments later, the Hawks doubled their advantage scoring on their second consecutive shot, as the ball slipped by Fisher keeper
Brooke Seavitt off an indirect kick.
Molly Beaton was able to finish one of Fisher's 23 shots in the 51st minute off a pass from
Carly Finn, to cut into the Hawk's lead. However, the Cardinals were unable to find the equalizer as Hartwick secured the victory.
Seavitt made five saves in net for the Cardinals.
With the loss Fisher falls to 8-10 overall and 3-3 in the Empire 8, while Hartwick improves to 7-6-3 overall and 2-3-1.
The Cardinals will have their final opportunity to clinch a spot in the Empire 8 Championships with a victory, as they take to the road again at 3 p.m. on Wednesday against Ithaca College.
