HTML BOX SCORE

The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team lost 65-52 in an Empire 8 contest against Hartwick College on Friday night in Oneonta. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in the Empire 8 Conference while Hartwick improved to 10-3, 3-0.

In the first half, Brooke Seavitt scored the Cardinals' first eight points, including two 3-pointers in the opening 2:34 of play. Hartwick kept a small lead over the Cardinals for most of the period, until Camaryn Buckner rattled off six points in a 1:32 span to tie the game at 16-16 with 9:13 remaining in the period.

Portia Velasco then hit a trey to put Fisher up 21-18 at 6:05 in the first half, the first lead the Cardinals held over the Hawks since Seavitt's first three at 18:05.

After that basket, scoring slowed for Fisher, as Hartwick went on a 16-4 run over the final 6:05 to head to the locker rooms with a 34-25 lead at the break.

Fisher came out of the half and scored a quick four points to cut the lead to five at 34-29 with 18:41 to play. Seavitt again opened the scoring for the Cardinals, this time with a layup, before Buckner netter another basket to cut the margin.

The Hawks would not be halted, however, building a lead that reached double digits down the stretch to hold off Fisher.

For Fisher, Buckner led the way with 19 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the field while corralling nine rebounds. Seavitt was the Cardinals' other double-digit scorer, going 6-for-9 from the floor, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc, for 16 points.

The Cardinals will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday as they travel to Hoboken, NJ for a matchup with Empire 8 foe Stevens Institute of Technology.
