Fisher Women's Soccer Loses a Heartbreaker in Double OT

The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team went to overtime for the fourth time in its last six games, falling 1-0 to University of Rochester in the final moments of the second overtime period. With the loss, Fisher drops to 3-3-3 on the season while Rochester improves to 2-6.

Rochester scored on a strike from the left wing on a pass to Alyssa Abel, who found the back of the net with just four seconds remaing.


Jessica Plukas made 11 saves for the Cardinals to keep Rochester off the scoreboard for over 109 minutes. In the 50th minute, Plukas was leaning to her right as a Yellowjacket player shot to the middle of the goal, and the keeper made the dive back to stop the shot. Just minutes later, Plukas made another stop on a rocket from 22-yards out by Abel.

Fisher put Rochester on its heels in the second overtime, as Alexandra Rohloff, Laura Burgstrom and Heather Konieczny all took shots that was saved by the Yellowjacket keeper.  Rochester finished the game with an 18-9 advantage in shots.

Fisher will return to action at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Alfred University in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.  Fisher is 0-0-2 in the Empire 8.
