Rohloff Scores Game Winner in OT Against Clarkson

BOX SCORE

Alexandra Rohloff pushed the St. John Fisher College women's soccer team past Clarkson University with a game-winning goal in the 97th minute of play on Sunday afternoon at Growney Stadium. The goal came from around 10-yards outside the top of the box, with Rohloff putting the ball over the Golden Knights' goalie.

The overtime win was the third win for the Cardinals this season, who now own a 3-1-2 record, including a 1-0-2 record in overtimes in 2012. The win is also the first blemish on Clarkson's record this season, as it owns a 4-1-1 mark. The Golden Knights tied another Empire 8 team on Saturday, giving up their first goal of the season in a 1-1 finish with Elmira College. Rohloff's goal is only the second shot keeper Kim Kenline has let past her this season.

In the first half, the two teams failed to find the back of the net. Fisher dominated statistically as the outshot the Golden Knights 9-5 and took two corner kicks to Clarkson's none. Rohloff had the best opportunity for both teams in the opening period, nearly scoring on a beautiful pass from Chelsea Oberkrieser, but Clarkson goalie Kenline made one of her four saves of the half.

Krista Pilla and Chelsea Oberkrieser worked hard all afternoon, putting up two shots-on-goal apiece, trailing Rohloff's team-best three. Fisher doubled the amount of shots taken by its opponent, shooting 20 times to Clarkson's 10.

The Cardinals defense was active all afternoon, keeping the ball out of its defensive half for most of the game, and allowing Clarkson just one corner kick, which did not come until the overtime period. Kenline finished with eight saves for the Golden Knights while Sydney DeVitto had two stops in the shutout victory.

The Cardinals will return to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday when it travels to SUNY Fredonia for a non-conference challenge.
