Women's Soccer Suffers Its First Loss In Five Games

Box Score

The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, losing 2-0 to host Rochester Institute of Technology.  The loss snapped a four-game unbeaten streak to start the season – the best start for the women's soccer program in nearly 30 years.

Fisher (2-1-2) had most of its scoring chances come in the second half, including a one-handed save in the 60th minute on a shot from Laura Burgstrom

The Tigers (4-2) took the lead in the 80th minute, as a breakaway shot went off the right post and into the net.

The Cardinals nearly netted the equalizer and were awarded a penalty kick in the 87th minute, but Fisher's Alexandra Rohloff was denied on a diving save.   The Tigers countered and added an insurance goal moments later to seal the win.

Fisher's Sydney DeVitto was outstanding in goal, making seven saves, with multiple stops coming from point-blank range.

Fisher returns to action at 1 p.m. on Sunday and will host Clarkson University.  The Golden Knights played at Elmira on Sunday.
