The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team was defeated by Roberts Wesleyan 70-30 in the Cardinals finale at the 47th Annual Wendy's College Classic. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 3-5 on the year and place sixth in the Wendy's tournament.
The loss was the largest margin of defeat since the 1995-96 season when Fisher lost to New York University 82-41. The last time the Cardinals were held to less points was during the 1974-75 season when Geneseo upended Fisher 91-24.
After entering the locker room down 42-14, the Cardinals were held to just 16 points in the second half by the Red Hawks. Fisher shot just 16.7% from the floor in the first half and 19.4% in the contest, while trailing in the turnover margin 24-13.
Sydney Bloomstein recorded eight points and nine rebounds for the Cardinals, while her team won the offensive rebound category 20-18.
Claire Walsh added seven points, while
Portia Velasco had three assists.
The Cardinals will open Empire 8 Conference play on Tuesday when they host the Saxons of Alfred University at 6 p.m.
