Fisher Women's Basketball Wins Woodcliff Invitational

BOX SCORE

The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team hosted and won the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Invitational on Sunday afternoon by defeating Union College 67-55 in Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium. Fisher's victory helped the team to improve to 2-3 on the season while dropping the Dutchwomen's season mark to 1-2.

Throughout the game, the Cardinals controlled the action, despite only possessing a one-point lead at the half. Fisher's defense came out of the locker room and stifled the Union offense, allowing just 23 points in 20 minutes of play.

Camaryn Buckner, named as the Most Valuable Player of the Woodcliff Invitational, had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds against Union. Also being named to the Invitational's All-Tournament team was point guard Portia Velasco, who shot 10-for-17 from the field against the Dutchwomen for a game-high 23 points.

One of the more impressive stats for the Cardinals was their capitalization of trips to the charity stripe, shooting 16-for-20 (80.0%). Buckner led the way, going 6-for-6 from the line while Brooke Seavitt (4-for-4) and Val Hanson (2-for-2) were also perfect with free throws.

Fisher will return action on Tuesday night as it competes in the annual Wendy's College Classic, for which the bracket will be released at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday night.
