The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team
dropped its first Empire 8 contest with an 82-50 decision to Ithaca College on Friday night. The game was the conference opener for both teams, with Fisher now 4-7 (0-1) and Ithaca 9-2 (1-0) on the season.
Ithaca scored the opening basket of the game with a three-pointer 18 seconds in and led for the rest of the contest.
Camaryn Buckner led the Cardinals, posting 16 points combined with six rebounds and two blocks. Senior
Meghan Soja was just one point behind Buckner, scoring 15 points and grabbing three rebounds.
Portia Velasco led with four assists, while scoring three points.
Fisher went into the half down 20 points, with the score 43-23 after the first stanza. Buckner finished the first 20 with nine points, while Soja had eight.
Fisher will return to action at 4 p.m. on Saturday, when it completes the tail end of the Empire 8 back-to-back at Utica College.
