Women's Soccer Falls to Speedy Tigers

The St. John Fisher women's soccer team lost to the visiting RIT Tigers 3-1 in today's night contest at Growney Stadium. With the loss, Fisher falls to 3-4 on the season, while RIT improves to 3-5.

Alexandra Rohloff scored the Cardinals only goal on a penalty kick late in the match.

Early in the first half, Fisher looked to get on the board with a free kick from Krista Pilla, but RIT goalie Ashley Valenti was able to punch the ball out of the top corner.

In the 20th minute, the Tigers had a free kick opportunity of their own, and were able to convert their chance. Midfielder Jaimie Lewandowski struck a ball from nearly 30 yards out that sailed past the outstretched hand of Fisher netminder Noel Peck.

RIT built on its lead early in the second half after Ashlene Potter sent the ball across the goal mouth and to the feet of Rachael Bromson.   Bromson then volleyed a soft ball back across the goal to Kimi Sisti. Sisti didn't waste any time and slammed the ball home from the air.

Later in the half, Fisher had another opportunity on a free kick when Laura Burgstrom had Valenti beat high. However, the crossbar kept the score at 2-0. After the post, a few small scrambles in front of the net produced more opportunities, but none were able to find mesh.

Ultimately, the speed of the Tigers proved too much for Fisher, as Sierra Kiss added a third-straight goal for the visitors. In the 60th minute, Kiss collected a long boot and raced to the goal, beating a defender for an uncontested shot at Peck.

Fisher's lone goal would come in the 87th minute on a penalty kick. Fisher was awarded the kick after Heather Konieczny was pushed in the box, and Rohloff buried the granted shot.

Chelsea Oberkrieser led the Cardinals with two shots on goal. RIT, who left the Empire 8 for the Liberty League this season, was led by Lewandowski who had two shots on goal.

Peck finished with two saves for Fisher, while Valenti recorded four in the win.

Fisher will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday when the travel to Union College.
