Women's Basketball Falls in Overtime of E8 Semifinal

The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team fell in an overtime battle to host and #2 seed Stevens in the Empire 8 semifinal, with the Ducks stealing the 66-61 win.

The Cardinals took a 24-21 lead into the locker room at the half. A 5-0 run from senior Colleen Maloney with just over two minutes left put Fisher up 22-17, before a 4-0 run from the Ducks cut the deficit.

Stevens kicked off the second half in scoring, but Fisher jumped out to a 35-27 lead before the game came close and the lead went back and forth by a point for minutes.

The overtime fate was sealed when Stevens' Jillian Barrett got fouled on her lay-up and converted the 3-point play with 4 seconds left in regulation.

Stevens scored the only points of overtime in the first minute and a half. Two free throws from Amanda Lax tied the game at 55s, but Stevens went on a 5-0 run to pull away at 60-55 with 2:33 left and never looked back.

Maloney led Fisher with 16 points, while Lax added 14. Freshman Camaryn Buckner led the team with 11 rebounds. Stevens' Barrett led all scorers with 19 points and added a game-best 22 rebounds.

Stevens will move on to face Ithaca in the Empire 8 final on Sunday, as the Cardinals' Empire 8 play comes to a close.
