The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team had its eight-game winning streak snapped, as
visiting Ithaca College defeated the Cardinals 61-46 on Friday night at Fisher's Bobby Wanzer Court.
With the win, Ithaca moves to 16-5 overall and 12-0 in the Empire 8. The Bombers have won 10 straight games. Fisher falls to 13-10, 10-4.
Fisher trailed 12-2 after starting the game shooting 1-for-12, but the Cardinals held Ithaca to just four points over the next 10 minutes and trailed by just three at 23-20 at intermission.
Fisher took its first lead of the game at 24-23 on a layup from
Meghan Soja in the opening minute of the second stanza. The two teams played evenly over the first five minutes of the second half, as the Cardinals tied the game at 32-32 on a layup from
Colleen Maloney with 14:40 left.
The Bombers, however, went on a 14-2 run over the next six minutes and kept a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
Soja led Fisher with nine points and 11 rebounds. Maloney added nine points, as did freshman
Camaryn Buckner.
Amanda Lax totaled eight points, six boards and four assists.
Fisher will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday and will host Utica College.
