The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team
fell 67-60 to RIT in overtime at home on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Fisher falls to 3-5 on the season while RIT moved to 4-4 on the year.
Despite opening up with an 11-0 run and holding a 24-13 lead at the half, the Cardinals could not hold off a second half and overtime charge by the Tigers. Fisher held its largest lead at 17-2 with 7:31 left in the first half but were then outscored 65-43 for the remainder of the game.
The Cardinals held the lead the entire way until a layup by Kayla Wheeler gave the Tigers a 49-48 lead with 59 second left in regulation.
Meghan Soja found
Jessica Krzemien the next time down the floor for a three-pointer to put Fisher back on top 51-49 with 46 seconds to play. Wheeler added another layup with 26 seconds left in the half, pushing the game to extra time.
Fisher took its last lead at 58-56 off a Krzemien free throw with 3:16 left in the extra period as RIT used an 11-2 run to close out the game.
RIT shot 24-for-27 (88.9%) from the free throw line in the contest.
Soja led Fisher with 18 points and eight rebounds while
Camaryn Buckner finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points and collecting 11 caroms.
Wheeler led all scorers with 27 points, including a perfect 13-for-13 from the charity stripe.
Fisher will return to action on December 30
th when it travels to face Washington in the Catholic University Tournament.
