Women's Basketball Wins Big Over Elmira

The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the year in the Empire 8 Conference with a 69-42 win over visiting Elmira College on Tuesday.

Fisher (5-5 overall) led 8-7 five minutes into the contest, but went on a 17-0 run over the next 5:20 to take command. The Cardinals led 47-19 at intermission and pushed its advantage to 62-22 five minutes in the second half.

Senior Colleen Maloney led the Cardinals with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Maloney shot 5-for-6 from 3-point range and also blocked four shots.
 
Freshman Lauren Gustin finished with a career-high 13 points, shooting 6-for-8 from the floor.
 
Stephanie Sweeney tallied seven points and four assists. Freshman Camaryn Buckner added 10 boards and six points. 
 
For Elmira (2-8, 0-3), Becca Fretz finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and three steals.

Fisher will return to action at 6 p.m. on Friday at Utica College.
