Early Lead Doesn't Hold Up For Women's Basketball

The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team dropped an 82-67 decision to host Medaille College on Sunday evening.

Fisher (4-5) jumped out to the early 8-2 lead, thanks to two 3-pointers from Colleen Maloney, but the lead wouldn't last.

The Mavericks (10-1), ranked No. 20 in the latest national poll, took a 37-31 into the locker room and took control in the second half, opening up the period with a 22-2 run over the first seven minutes.

Maloney led the Cardinals with 23 points and nailed five 3-pointers.

Junior Meghan Soja scored a career-high 18 points, while adding nine rebounds and three steals.

Freshman Camaryn Buckner totaled 11 points, eight boards and five blocked shots.

Fisher will return to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and will host Elmira College in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.
