The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team
fell 2-0 to the visiting College at Brockport Golden Eagles in the championship game of the Fisher Tournament on a mostly overcast Sunday afternoon at Growney Stadium.
The Golden Eagles dominated the opening minutes of play, and eventually took the lead when Kaila Maguire took the ball in past Fisher goalkeeper
Jessica Plukas to put it in the back of the net 15 minutes into play.
Play shifted back and forth for the remainder of the half, with neither team able to capitalize on opportunities.
The second half opened with Fisher firing.
Megan Gee recorded three shots in the first six minutes of the half, with Brockport's Erin Asquith forced to make a stellar save to stop a rocket headed into the left side. Despite two ensuing corner kicks, Fisher could not take advantage, and the score remained tipped toward Brockport. Another opportunity would strike when
Heather Konieczny booted one just high of the net off a corner from Gee with 21 minutes left in the game.
Brockport sealed the fate with 3:28 left to play when Abby Smith headed one off the corner kick from Sarah Lawson into the back left of the net, pushing Brockport to a two goal lead.
Gee led Fisher with seven shots, two on goal. Plukas saw all 90 minutes between the pipes, tallying four saves.
The Cardinals return to action when they host the visiting Muhlenberg Mules on Saturday, September 11 at 1 p.m. at Growney Stadium.
