The St. John Fisher College Cardinals took a quick lead in the first half and never looked back,
defeating the Bard College Raptors 2-0 in Cardinals' home-opener at Growney Stadium and game one of the Fisher Tournament.
The Cardinals dominated the field in the first half with great ball control. A pass from
Laura Burgstrom across to
Amanda Siebert found the back left side of the net from about 12 yards out, getting the Cardinals on the board only 2:30 into play. Keeping the ball in the Cardinals' half, Fisher continued to control the field, increasing its lead to two goals off a direct hit from
Sarah Bihl, who received the ball from behind on a pass from Siebert, and found the opening in the left side again.
The second half saw a more even playing field to start, but the Cardinals regained control for the latter half of it. Neither team could capitalize, leaving the Cardinals with a 2-0 victory.
Jessica Plukas earned the win in net for Fisher, tallying two saves and improving to 1-1 on the season. Bard's Amy Strawbridge took the loss.
Siebert led the Cardinals with two points on a goal and an assist.
Fisher returns to action tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the championship game of the Fisher Tournament, and will face the winner of this afternoon's Brockport/SUNY Old Westbury contest.
