The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team battled back to even the playing field in the second half of play against Stevens, but late goals would send Fisher home
with a 2-0 loss.
The Cardinals were outshot 7-2 in the first half of play, but the defense did its job, maintaining the scoreless tie going into halftime.
Fisher came out firing in the second half, evening the shots out between the teams. The Cardinals were, however, unable to stop the Ducks from getting on the board to take a late 1-0 lead in the 73rd minute of play when Brittany Odgers found the right side of the net off a cross.
Less than ten minutes later, the Ducks secured the win as Gia Gonzales grabbed the loose ball off the corner kick to punch it into the left corner.
Megan Gee led the Cardinals with five shots, while
Alexa Capozzi recorded a team-best two shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Jessica Plukas stopped four shots, playing all 90 minutes between the pipes.
Fisher, now 1-6-1 overall and 0-2 in the Empire 8 Conference, returns to action Wednesday as the Cardinals host East Ave. rival Nazareth College at Growney Stadium at 7 p.m.
