Fisher Drops a Conference game to Ithaca

The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team fell 73-55 to the visiting Ithaca Bombers. With the loss Fisher drops to 3-3 in the Empire 8 Conference and 6-5 overall.

Fisher opened the game with an eight point lead, 12-4, after just four minutes of play. However, the Bombers took a three point lead into halftime, 29-26, after outscoring Fisher 25-14 in the final 15 minutes of the first half.

The Bombers took control early in the second half. A layup from Stephanie Sweeney with 15:38 remaining made it 37-35 Ithaca, but Ithaca pulled away, thanks to a 19-2 run over the next six minutes. The final nine points during the run came on three straight possessions with 3-point field goals. Ithaca shot 71.4% from three-point range in the second half and shot 50% from both the field and three for the entire game.

Colleen Maloney led the Cardinals with 17 points while Kristen Taliento dished out five assists.

Fisher will return to action on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the 44th Wendy's College Classic (formerly known as the JPMorgan Chase Tournament). Pairings for the largest and longest running in season tournament in NCAA Division III will be announced on Sunday night.
