Utica Rallies To Beat Fisher In Women's Basketball

Colleen Maloney made four 3-pointers in Friday's loss to Utica.

The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team dropped to 3-2 in the Empire 8 Conference, as Utica College battled back to defeat the visiting Cardinals 73-64 on Friday night.

Fisher (6-4, 3-2 E8) led by five early in the second half, but Utica (9-2, 3-0) took the lead for good midway through the final stanza.   Fisher trailed 59-57 with just over six minutes to go, but Utica used a 7-0 spurt over the next 100 seconds to take a nine-point lead and pull away.   The Pioneers shot over 58% from the floor in the second half and 50% for the game. Fisher shot 38% from the field for the game and struggled from the charity stripe, connect on just 6-of-15 from the foul line.

Colleen Maloney led the Cardinals with 19 points, while adding five steals. Mary Kate Comfort finished with 10 points, while Stephanie Sweeney added eight rebounds, six steals, five assists and five points.

Fisher will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday and will host Ithaca College.
