Host St. John Fisher College
dropped a 55-47 decision to visiting Hartwick College on Saturday in an Empire 8 Conference women's basketball matchup.
With the loss, Fisher falls to 9-8, 4-5, while Hartwick improves to 5-11, 3-6.
Hartwick took the lead for good late in the first half, going on a 10-1 run over the final 2:32 of the opening frame to take a 28-21 at intermission.
The Hawks pushed their lead to 10 points at 37-27 with 15 left in the game, but Fisher went on a 14-3 run over the next eight minutes to pull to within one point at 41-40. Junior
Amanda Lax scored nine of Fisher's points during the run, all of which came on 3-pointers.
With just over six minutes left and Hartwick leading 43-42, the Hawks went on a 10-1 run over the next five minutes to pull away.
Fisher shot 16-for-66 (24.2%) from the floor for the game, including just 4-for-20 (20.0%) from 3-point range, while Hartwick shot 19-for-40 (47.5%) from the field, including 6-for-10 (60.0%) from beyond the arc.
Jalicia Connell led the Hawks with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Lauren Ploof also scored 14 points.
Lax led Fisher with 14 points, while
Stephanie Sweeney added 12 points and five steals.
Fisher will return to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and will host Nazareth College.
