The St. John Fisher College women's basketball advanced to the semifinals of the 17th Annual Wendy's College Classic
with a 66-57 win over Rochester Institute of Technology on Tuesday night at Keuka College. With the win, the third-seeded Cardinals will now play the winner of No. 2 Rochester vs. No. 7 Keuka at 8:15 p.m. at Rochester's Palestra.
With the win, Fisher improves to 7-5 overall.
Colleen Maloney led the Cardinals with 20 points, while
Mary Kate Comfort chipped in with 13 points.
Kristi Jeffres added 11 points, while
Stephanie Sweeney totaled eight assists, seven steals and five points.
Fisher is now 16-1 all-time in opening round games in the Wendy's College Classic.
The Cardinals went on a 14-2 run, snapping a 13-13 tie midway through the first half and never trailed again. The Tigers, however, answered Fisher's run with a 12-2 run over the final six minutes and trailed 29-27 at intermission.
Fisher pushed its lead to as many as 12 points during the second half, but the Tigers never went away and pulled to within four points with 2:28 left. Fisher though responded with a 3-pointer from Maloney and five straight points from Comfort to put the game out of reach.
