The St. John Fisher College
women's basketball team lost 75-57 to host Ithaca College in the semifinals of the Empire 8 Conference Championship on Friday. With the loss, Fisher falls to 16-10 and will find out on Monday if it has earned a bid to the ECAC Upstate Championships.
Fisher, who had beaten top-seeded Ithaca twice during the regular-season, made a season-high six 3-pointers, but struggled from the foul line (13-for-25 – 52%) and committed 25 turnovers in the loss.
With the loss, the fourth-seeded Cardinals fall to 16-10 overall and will find out on Monday if they have qualified for the ECAC Upstate Championship.
Fisher trailed the Bombers 32-24 at intermission after shooting just 24% from the floor over the opening 20 minutes.
The Cardinals fell behind 52-40 with just over 10 minutes left in the contest, but went on a 7-0 run over the next two minutes, capped by a 3-pointer from
Colleen Maloney, pulling Fisher to within five points at 52-47. Ithaca, however, regained command and went on an 11-0 run over the next three minutes and kept a double-digit advantage for the rest of the game.
Kristen Taliento led Fisher with 12 points and shot 4-for-4 from the foul line, while Maloney finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Senior
Meagan Tubbs tallied 10 points and went 2-for-2 from 3-point range. Sophomore
Stephanie Sweeney finished with nine points and three steals, while
Amanda Lax added six points and five boards.
