Women's Basketball Cruises Past D'Youville

Colleen Maloney scored 17 points in just 12 minutes in the first half of Friday's win.

The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team used a 17-0 run over a four-minute span midway through the first half and cruised to a 85-43 win over visiting D'Youville College on Friday in the first game of the Courtyard-Marriott Classic.

 Junior Colleen Maloney  scored 12 points during Fisher's 17-0 spurt, draining three 3-pointers and three free throws. Maloney scored 17 of her team-high 23 points in the first half in just 12 minutes of action, as the Cardinals enjoyed a 43-17 lead at intermission.
 

Junior Stephanie Sweeney  tallied 10 points (3-for-4 from 3-point range) and a team-high seven steals.

 Sophomore Meghan Soja scored all nine of her points in the first half.
 
Sophomores Kayleigh Comfort and Kristi Jeffres each scored six points, as did freshman Kaitlin Smith, knocking down two 3-pointers.   Freshman Christian Scaccia scored a career-high five points, while classmate Jessica Krzemien added five rebounds, four points, three assists and three steals.   Freshman Kathleen Sullivan recorded a career-high five steals to go with five rebounds, four assists and two points.
 

Rachel Fuehrer scored her first collegiate points in the win, while Bonny Gardner, Molly Dougherty, Amanda Lax and Kristen Taliento also scored in the win,

 

For D'Youville (0-3), Holly Beats scored a team-high 16 points.

 

D'Youville will face Allegheny College on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Fisher, while the Cardinals will host Allegheny College at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
