Former head coach Phil Kahler, shown here with Athletic Director Bob Ward, retired as the NCAA Division III women's basketball all-time wins leader, and was honored by the College at halftime on Saturday.
The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team cruised to an 87-46 win over visiting Cazenovia College on Saturday.

Fisher (4-1) jumped out to a 17-0 lead over the opening 6:24 and never looked back, building up a 50-16 lead by intermission after shooting 58.8% from the floor.

At halftime, the College honored former head coach Phil Kahler, who led the Cardinals for each of the past 34 years, compiling a 797-175 overall record.   He finished his career as the NCAA Division III all-time leader in win and was a two-time national coach of the year.

Thirteen of Fisher's 14 players scored in the win, with every player seeing at least nine minutes action.
Sophomore Stephanie Sweeney  only scored two points, but enjoyed a career-day, finished with eight assists, seven steals (both career-highs) and five rebounds.

Classmate Colleen Maloney led five Cardinals in double-figures with 13 points. Freshman Kristi Jeffres tied her career-high and finished with 12 points and three blocks. Junior Mary Kate Comfort scored a season-high 11 points, while freshman Kayleigh Comfort also scored 11 points (career-high). Sophomore Chrysa Lyons  came off the bench and scored a career-high 10 points.

Sophomore Marissa Canori totaled four points and three steals in her first career start. Kristen Taliento finished with six points and six rebounds, while freshman Meghan Soja added six points, five rebounds and four steals.

Christine Isselhard chipped in with five points. Amanda Lax scored three points, while Kellie Leathem and Molly Dougherty each finished with two points. Nichole Clark dished out a career-high three assists.

Cazenovia junior guard Colleen Clarke finished with 17 points to lead all scorers, and eclipsed the 1,000-point barrier for her career.

Fisher will return to action on January 2, 2009 and will host Hartwick College in the Empire 8 Conference season opener for both teams.
