St. John Fisher University Athletics

Alea Steigerwald (Penfield/Penfield) of the St. John Fisher College women's volleyball team has been named the College's Co-Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, November 10. Steigerwad led the Cardinals to their first Empire 8 Championship this past weekend. 

The outside hitter was spectacular during the conference tournament as Fisher defeated Elmira in straight-sets in the semifinals on Friday and then took down Nazareth in the championship final on Saturday in four sets. Steigerwald was the kills leader in both matches with 18 and 14 respectively. The sophomore also registered a game-high three aces and team-high of 12 digs against the Soaring Eagles while leading all players in digs with 21 versus the Golden Flyers. Her performances led her to be named E8 Tournament Most Valuable Player. 

On the season Steigerwald now has 492 kills which ties her own program record she set in her freshman season. Fisher now prepares for the NCAA Division III Tournament this upcoming weekend. The Cardinals will find out their destination and opponent during the selection show which is set to start at 12:30 p.m. on Monday. A live stream of the selection show can be seen on NCAA.com.
