St. John Fisher College’s
Jordan Brungard (Hornell/Hornell) of the women’s tennis team has been named as the St. John Fisher College Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 12, 2010.
In a 2-1 week for the Cardinals, Brungard led the squad with three singles wins and two doubles wins. In conference action against Alfred, Jordan paired with teammate Katelyn Smith (Lockport/Lockport) to earn an 8-3 win before cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win against Cady Spencer in singles.
On the weekend, Brungard earned one of only two Fisher points in a 7-5, 6-1 win at fifth singles against Roberts Wesleyan on Friday, before winning both of her matches back in conference action against Elmira on Sunday. The 5-foot-9 junior paired up with Smith for an 8-2 win in doubles, then went on to defeat Melanie Walker 6-4, 6-4 at fifth singles.
The Cardinals, now 2-1 overall and 2-0 in Empire 8 action, return to action as they host neighboring conference rival R.I.T. on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Fisher Courts.
