St. John Fisher University Athletics

Demarre Nelson (east Rochester/East Rochester) of the St. John Fisher College football team has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for action taking place during the week that ended October 8, 2017.

Nelson came up with two key interceptions last Saturday as the Cardinals hosted nationally-ranked Alfred University at Growney Stadium.

The junior cornerback’s second pick halted a lengthy drive for the Saxons as Nelson came down with the INT inside the end zone to set Fisher up for one final drive in the fourth quarter.

He also made six tackles on the day.

For the season, Nelson leads the Empire 8 with four interceptions and seven passes defended.

Football returns to the field at 6 p.m. on Saturday as it hosts Utica College in an Empire 8 showdown at Growney Stadium.
