St. John Fisher College’s Camaryn Buckner (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) of the women’s basketball team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 1, 2012.
In a 1-1 week, Buckner scored a combined 34 points, with 20 rebounds, five blocks and six assists. In Friday’s 74-63 loss to Washington College, Buckner scored 18 points and grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds. The sophomore also denied two shots to lead the Cardinals.
On Saturday, Buckner helped the Cardinals mount a 20-point comeback to defeat Thiel College 71-69 in the consolation game of the Catholic University of America Holiday Tournament. After Fisher took the lead with 4.8 seconds left, Buckner came up with a game-winning block on a Thiel 3-point attempt at the buzzer. Buckner scored 16 points in the game, matched with six rebounds, six assists and three blocks.
Buckner was also named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts over the weekend.
Fisher (4-6) will return to action on Friday when it travels to Ithaca College for a 6 p.m. contest with the Bombers. The contest will be the first of Empire 8 Conference play for both teams.
