St. John Fisher College’s Mike Roman of the baseball team has been selected as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending May 22nd, 2016.
Fisher claimed the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Title this past week going 4-0 in the eight-team tournament. With the win the Cardinals will head to Appleton, Wisconsin, to compete in the DIII Baseball College World Series for the first time in Fisher history, looking to claim a national championship title.
Roman was named the Regional Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player as the starting shortstop went 8-for-17 (.471) over the four-game span and led Fisher in hits (8), runs scored (5), and tied for the team-lead with five RBI.
Roman was also named to the Empire 8 Conference First Team this week for the third time in his career. The senior ranks third all-time in Fisher history for career hits with 212, and is just the fifth player in program history to record 200 or more hits.
The Cardinals will take on Keystone College at 4:30 p.m. (CST) on Friday in its first matchup of the DIII College World Series.
