St. John Fisher College’s Quinn Magiera of the men’s tennis team has been selected as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending May 1st, 2016.
Fisher went 2-1 on the week with a loss to RIT and two Empire 8 Conference wins over Alfred University and Elmira College. With the win over Elmira, Fisher finished the regular season 9-8 overall and 5-3 in the Empire 8. The Cardinals will be the No. 3 seed for next weekend’s Empire 8 Championship, hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology.
Magiera secured wins in all three matches this week, the first coming in doubles play at RIT, where Magiera and his partner won their first doubles match 8-6, scoring Fisher’s only point of the match.
In Saturday’s contest against Alfred, the freshman defeated his second singles opponent in a dominating 6-0, 6-1 win, and also won in first doubles, 9-7. The next day against Elmira Fisher took the victory as Magiera and his partner tallied yet another victory at first doubles, winning 8-0. He also won his second singles matchup 6-2, 6-1.
