St. John Fisher College’s Kayla Goodberlet (Bishop Ready/Columbus, OH) of the softball team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 31, 2013.

In a 5-1 week for the Cardinals, Goodberlet put on a show at the dish, hit 10-for-15 (.667) with 14 runs scored, 12 runs driven in, six home runs, three doubles and five walks. She had an on-base percentage of .762 while an astonishing slugging percentage of 2.067.

The week started with a split with University of Rochester on Wednesday. Fisher fell in the first game with Goodberlet going 2-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored and a double. In the second game, a 7-5 walk-off win brought on by a seventh inning three-run homer from Sarah Fordyce. Goodberlet started the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning to deep left field. She finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs scored, a run driven in, a double and the solo blast.

Fisher played Medaille College the next day, taking both games of the doubleheader in mercy rule fashion. In the first game, the senior hit two home runs in the same inning, becoming only the 10th player in NCAA Division III history to accomplish the feat. Goodberlet finished the game 2-for-2 with five RBI and two runs scored. The second game was much of the same, with the third baseman hitting another bomb in a 1-for-2 outing.

The Cardinals wrapped up the week on Saturday with a non-conference doubleheader sweep against Rochester Institute of Technology. Once again Goodberlet was seeing the ball well, going a perfect 2-for-2 in game one, with both hits coming on homers for three runs scored and three RBI. In the last game she went 1-for-2 with a double while crossing the plate three times.

Fisher returns to action at 3 p.m. on Thursday when it travels to Buffalo to face D’Youville College for its last non-conference doubleheader before Empire 8 play begins over the weekend.
