Camaryn Buckner (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) of the St. John Fisher College women’s basketball team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 25, 2012.
In a 2-1 week for the Cardinals, Buckner played a pivotal role in each contest, leading Fisher to its first two wins of the season.
In the opening round of the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa Invitational hosted by Fisher, the junior forward put visiting John Jay College in a hole with two early three-pointers. Buckner scored 15 of her team-high and season-high 21 points in the first half, also contributing eight rebounds, one assist, and one block. Fisher defeated the visiting Bloodhounds by a final of 71-55.
On Sunday, in the championship game against Union College, Buckner would settle for nothing less than capturing the tournament title. She recorded her first double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds, also tallying two steals and tying a career-high with six blocks, leading Fisher to a 67-55 victory.
For her outstanding efforts with 41 points, 18 rebounds, and seven blocks in the tournament, Buckner was named Most Valuable Player of the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa Invitational.
In a 68-58 loss to Medaille College on Tuesday, she recorded a team-high eight rebounds while also chipping in four points.
Fisher will look to continue its winning streak at home when they host The College at Brockport in the opening round of the 47th Annual Wendy’s College Classic at 8 p.m. on Tuesday night at Manning and Napier Gym.
