St. John Fisher University Athletics

St. John Fisher College’s Laura Burgstrom (Spencerport/Rochester) of the women’s soccer team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 16, 2011.

With help from Burgstrom, the Cardinals won their only game of the week when they defeated Empire 8 Conference opponent Hartwick College 3-0 this past Saturday. The sophomore midfielder started the game by finishing a shot over the head of the keeper in the 7^th minute.  The goal gave Fisher a 1-0 lead and ended up being the game winner.

Burgstrom has now tallied three goals on the season which is good for third most on the team.  She also is tied for the team lead in shots for the season with 28 after finishing Saturday’s game with four shots.

With the victory, Fisher improved its overall season record to 6-6 and its Empire 8 Conference record to 3-2.
Fisher will return to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon when it visits Nazareth College to take on the Golden Flyers.
