St. John Fisher College’s Troy Sant (Pittsford Mendon/Pittsford) has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 9, 2011. Sant was also named Defensive Player of the Week by the Empire 8.
This weekend, the Cardinals defeated Ithaca College 13-10 in overtime in a pivotal Empire 8 matchup. Sant led the Fisher defense on Saturday that held the Bombers to just 10 points in the overtime victory at Butterfield Stadium.
Sant recorded two interceptions on the day, including one in the red zone. Sant’s second interception came on third and seven, ending a 55-yard Ithaca drive at the Fisher 10-yard line. Sant wrestled the ball away from an Ithaca receiver, keeping the game tied at 10-10 midway in the third quarter.
The junior cornerback also recorded four tackles in the game, including one solo. On the season, Sant now has three interceptions and 11 tackles.
The Cardinals will return to action at 12 p.m. on Saturday when they host Frostburg State University, a first-year Empire 8 opponent.
