St. John Fisher College’s Melissa Leonhard
(Penfield/Penfield) of the women’s
lacrosse team has been named the Empire 8 Player of the Week and the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 13, 2011.
In a 2-0 week for the Cardinals,
Leonhard led the team with seven goals and scooped up 10 ground balls.
On Friday, the sophomore midfielder tallied three goals and one assist in Fisher’s 20-10 win over visiting SUNY Oneonta.
Leonhard also added seven ground balls and four draw controls.
In Saturday’s 14-13 win over nationally-ranked Union College,
Leonhard had a career-high four goals. She also scooped up three ground balls and won two draws.
For the season, Leonhard leads the team in goals (10) and ground balls (10). She has totaled 10 draw controls and is tied for second on the team in overall points (11).
The Cardinals (2-1) return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday as they host Buffalo State College.
