St. John Fisher College has named #Tim Bailey# of the football team as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 28, 2008.

In just his fourth career start, the sophomore quarterback led the eleventh-ranked Cardinals to a convincing 37-6 win over No. 16 Ithaca College at Fisher’s Growney Stadium in a key Empire 8 Conference matchup. He threw for a personal-best 315 yards (243 in the second half) on 15-of-20 passing with one touchdown through the air, and sealed the win with a one yard TD run (the first of his career) in the fourth quarter. With the win, Fisher improved to 3-1 overall, 1-0 in the Empire 8.

The Cardinals owned a 6-3 advantage at the half on a pair of field goal drives. In the second half however, the 6-foot-2 signal caller guided the Cardinals to scoring drives on each of five second-half possessions (4TD, 1 FG), including a 75-yard touchdown down the right sidelines from Bailey to senior wideout #Jimmy Smith# that gave the Cardinals a 23-6 cushion late in the third.

For the season, Bailey has completed 73-of-125 passes (58.4%) for 1,056 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions.

Fisher will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday to take on Hartwick College. It’s Homecoming weekend at Fisher, and the Cardinals will be looking to avenge a 31-28 loss to the Hawks last season.
