ONEONTA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher field hockey team fell 3-0 to St. Lawrence on Friday in a neutral-site matchup at All College Field. The Cardinals dropped to 0-2 overall, while the Saints improved to 2-0.
How it Happened
Fisher and St. Lawrence played to a scoreless deadlock through the first two periods, with goalkeeper Morgan Parrinello turning away three shots in the opening quarter alone to keep the game level. The Cardinals earned three penalty corners in the first period and four more across the final three quarters, but couldn't find the back of the cage.
St. Lawrence broke through midway through the third period on a penalty-corner goal, then extended the lead just over three minutes later. A third St. Lawrence goal early in the fourth put the game out of reach. Fisher pushed in the final period, getting shots from Mary Kate McPhee and Alison Taplin, but Saints goalkeeper Stella Gizzi closed the door for the shutout.
Parrinello finished with six saves on nine shots faced in a hard-luck loss.
