ONEONTA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher field hockey team earned its first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over SUNY Oneonta on Saturday. The Cardinals improve to a 1-2 overall record, while the Red Dragons fall to 1-1.
How it Happen
The opening quarter featured strong defensive play from both teams, with each side creating scoring opportunities. The Cardinals recorded four shots, while the Red Dragons tallied three.
Just over four minutes into the second quarter, the Cardinals opened the scoring. Junior attack Avery McLaughlin delivered a feed to sophomore attack Callie Smith, who found the back of the net to give Fisher a 1-0 lead.
The score remained unchanged through the end of the second quarter and throughout the third. With less than a minute remaining, the Cardinals doubled their lead. McLaughlin ripped a shot into the back of the cage to record the Cardinals' second goal of the game and secure a 2-0 victory.Â
