Men’s Soccer Downs RIT, 1-0, Behind Griswold Goal and Stusek Shutout

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Alec Griswold's second-half strike proved to be the difference as the St. John Fisher men's soccer team held off RIT for a 1-0 victory on Wednesday night. Parker Stusek turned in a stellar performance in net, making eight saves to preserve the clean sheet and improve the Cardinals to 1-1-1 on the season.

How It Happened

The two sides were locked in a scoreless deadlock through the opening 45 minutes despite RIT holding an edge in shot volume. Fisher weathered the pressure behind Stusek, who came up with five saves in the first half alone to keep the game level.

The Cardinals broke through in the 59th minute when Griswold buried his first goal of the season, set up by an assist from Neal Wantye, to give Fisher a 1-0 lead. Stusek and the Cardinals' defense made it stand up the rest of the way, with Stusek adding three more saves in the second half to secure the shutout.

Game Notes

  • Stusek finished with eight saves on the night, earning his first shutout of the season and improving to 1-1-1 in goal.
