BUFFALO, N.Y. — St. John Fisher was outpaced on the road Friday, falling 6-0 to Canisius in an exhibition matchup at Demske Sports Complex.
How It Happened
Canisius broke through in the 16th minute when Edson Flores buried a feed from Kiernan Van Engen and Miles Wadiche, and the hosts carried that 1-0 edge into the break despite St. John Fisher goalkeeper Andrew Thomas turning away a handful of first-half looks to keep it a one-goal game.
The Griffins pulled away in the second half. A goal in the 52nd minute made it 2-0, and Romero Nicolazzo took over from there, striking three times in a seven-minute span — the 57th, 62nd, and 63rd minutes — to complete a hat trick. Canisius capped the scoring with a penalty kick in the 86th minute.
Thomas made five saves in a full 90 minutes between the posts for the Cardinals, who were outshot 29-5 on the night. Jack Tamburino and Mathias Ferrara each picked up second-half yellow cards.
