PITTSFORD, N.Y. – St. John Fisher University head coach Stephanie Strassner recently completed a successful final season leading the Bishop Kearney High School girls flag football program.

Strassner's Kings captured the Class C2 and overall Class C championships before their season came to an end with a loss to eventual state champion and unbeaten (19-0) Pioneer. Bishop Kearney ended the year with an 11-6 overall mark.

"If I had to summarize this past season in two words, they would be resilience and growth," Strassner said. "These principles were the foundation of our journey to becoming the 2026 Section V Class C2 Champions, the overall Class C Champions and when making our proud regional run. Reflecting on where we started versus where we finished, I could not be prouder of this team.

"I will forever cherish my time coaching at Bishop Kearney High School. I am immensely proud of the success we shared and the role we played in expanding the sport of flag football."

St. John Fisher announced the addition of flag football to its intercollegiate athletics profile this past November and soon after hired Strassner as its head coach. Over three seasons at Bishop Kearney, Strassner, the 2024 All-Greater Rochester and Section V Flag Football Coach of the Year, went 37-7, won two sectional championships and captured the inaugural state title in 2024.

The NCAA announced in May that flag football received a formal recommendation to become an NCAA championship sport. Its first championship is projected to occur in spring 2028.

"I am thrilled to begin my next chapter at St. John Fisher University," Strassner said. "I look forward to building on this momentum as we launch the university's inaugural flag football team, establishing a standard of excellence from day one."
