PITTSFORD, N.Y. — Justin D'Amato, one of the most decorated players in St. John Fisher University baseball history, will be inducted into the Section V Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday, honoring his accomplishments at both the high school and collegiate levels.
The Hall of Fame ceremony is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start in the Nest at ESL Ballpark, with inductees also set to be introduced on the field prior to Sunday's game, which has a 1 p.m. first pitch.
A three-year starter at Canandaigua, D'Amato set the program's single-season record with a .596 batting average and finished his prep career with program marks in doubles (28) and ERA (1.52). He earned Fourth Team All-State honors in 2010, a season that also saw him named the Daily Messenger Player of the Year and a First Team All-Greater Rochester selection.
D'Amato originally signed to play Division I baseball at Niagara University before transferring to Fisher to continue his career under head coach Brandon Potter. He developed into one of the program's all-time greats, earning All-American honors three times and being tabbed Baseball America's Division III Pitcher of the Year in 2013.
By the time he left Fisher, D'Amato held the program's career records for wins (36), strikeouts (325), ERA (2.11), innings pitched (276.2) and games started (47). His win total ranked ninth in NCAA Division III history at the time, while his strikeout total ranked 19th nationally.
"I'm incredibly honored to be inducted into the Section V Hall of Fame," D'Amato said. "Baseball gave me so many opportunities, friendships and life lessons, and I'm grateful to all the coaches, teammates, family members and supporters who helped me along the way. To be recognized alongside so many outstanding athletes and contributors from Section V is truly humbling. I'm especially proud to represent both Canandaigua Academy and St. John Fisher, two places that had a tremendous impact on my development as an athlete, coach and person. This honor is something I'm grateful to share with everyone who was part of that journey."
Tickets for Sunday's event are $60 and include admission to the game, the Hall of Fame ceremony and a buffet. For more information, contact Billy Bowe at coachbowe@rochester.rr.com.
